Direct Primary Care is a model of medical care where patients pay a regular, in our case monthly, membership to join a physician's patient panel. The membership fee gives patients access to their doctor and the ability to receive quality medical care for acute, chronic and preventative care. It is not a form of insurance and we recommend members who have insurance maintain their overage when joining the practice. If you have insurance you can still use it for medications and labs, although many people find that it is less expensive to use the clinic’s discounts for labs, imaging and medications.
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is not concierge medicine but you can think about it as an affordable, cost-transparent alternate to concierge medicine. In both cases, physicians have small patient panels of about 200-600 patients (compared to 2000-4000 in the traditional system). However, concierge practices bill insurance in addition to their membership fees which typically are much higher than in DPC and often require a long-term commitment. By working outside of the traditional insurance system and keeping overhead costs low DPC physicians are able to offer high-quality care similar to concierge doctors.
We do not bill insurance so you are able to join Rooted Direct Primary Care regardless of insurance coverage. You do not need to have insurance coverage to join the practice though we encourage members to seek insurance coverage for "catastrophic events" and specialist care if that is needed. This protects you in the event of an emergency or if you have to be referred to a specialist for care that we aren’t able to provide in our office.
No. While we hope you love the services and access to your doctor you'll get at Rooted Direct Primary Care we recognize we're not going to be for everyone. Memberships are billed monthly and we ask that you give a 30-day notice when cancelling your membership. We recognize that life happens so if you are in a position where you experience financial hardship, are moving or have another life event that means you need to end your membership, simply reach out and we will walk through that process with you.
We meet each patient where they are at and have a focus on wellness and preventive care. We can work with you to develop a plan to improve your overall health and to keep you healthy. Furthermore, the same-day and next-day access to your personal physician both for acute issues or even questions related to your health can save you time, money and stress. Access to care includes virtual visits, texting, emailing in addition to in-person visits. Virtual care is provided on an unlimited basis and included in the monthly fee. Because you will not be burdened with co-pays, and with our accessible schedule, the appointment process is streamlined and not rushed as it is in the current model. Individuals with high deductibles or who are uninsured especially can benefit from a direct primary care practice.
Provisions in HR1 which goes into effect January 1, 2026 and includes the Primary Care Enhancement Act, state that individuals may use $150 per month of HSA funds towards a DPC membership and up to $300 per month of HSA funds towards a family membership with a DPC Practice.
